Your Visit and Treatments
Initial Consultations
Your initial session will last approximately 1 hour.

A full medical history is taken including details of the current presenting condition and any previous episodes of musculo-skeletal pain or immobility.
The osteopath will then carry out an examination of the patient. This usually involves the patient removing some of their clothing and performing a simple series of movements. Although it is preferred that this is carried out with the patient in their underwear it is not essential. The osteopath will then use a highly developed sense of touch, called palpation, to identify any points of weakness or excessive strain throughout the body. In conjunction with the findings from the physical examination, and the details obtained during the taking of the medical history, the osteopath with then try to reach a diagnosis and discuss a proposed treatment plan. It may not always be possible to reach a diagnosis at the initial consultation, as the osteopath may need additional investigations such as x-ray or blood tests.

The treatment part usually comprises of any or all of the following: -
-
Soft tissue/muscle massage
-
Articulation and mobilisation of restricted joints
-
Cranial Osteopathy
-
Prescribed Exercise
Osteopathy is patient centred which means the treatment is geared to you, the patient, as an individual.

Follow up Consultations
Lasting approximately 45 minutes.

This session comprises of a brief talk with the osteopath to find out the response to the treatment and any changes in symptoms, then the osteopath with re-asses the patient and continue with the treatment plan. Again, unless there is any contraindication, the treatment style is likely to follow that of the initial consultation.
